Forbidden Dragons Slots
WMS are widely known across the slot machine industry for keeping land based casino slots alive with their constant machine and game feature design innovations. So big a change was the colossal reels feature used by Forbidden Dragons and other games in this series that when 1st supplied people were actually queuing to use the new machines at Las Vegas Casinos. I know this for a painful fact as I waited over 30 minutes to play this game for the first time!
The game is one of four in a series, the best known being the official movie slot Van Helsing, the gameplay is the same for all so it essentially comes down to theme preference. No surprises given the title, Forbidden Dragons is an ancient China themed slot with all the traditionally dragon symbolism you would expect from that genre.
The games big draw is its twin reel system, with one 5×4 reel set on the left screen and 5×12 reel set on the right for a total of 100 paylines! Combine this with nudging and transferring stacked wilds, bonus spins and a multiplier on all colossal reel wins and you can see why this game series was such a huge hit as a real money slot.
Theme
Ancient China has been a tried and tested theme for slot game fans for many years now, we assume WMS decided not to reinvent the wheel when choosing the themes for this game series and so far as it goes they have represented the genre well.
A set of playing card symbols form the low payout icons on the game, whilst you will find both male and female ancient Chinese characters, a komodo dragon and a yin-yang symbol available higher up the food chain, any confusion when you start playing can be rectified with a one button click to get to the machines paytable.
The music is a little chintzy but the graphics and visuals are simply stunning and distract from it, most casino floors have a good deal of ambient background noise anyway, you can always pop your headphones on if the tune annoys you!
Features
If you haven’t played multi-games before this is a great place to start, all reels play left to right as normal but you have two separate sets, one set of 5×4 and one of 5×12. The transferring wild really comes into its own in this format, fill any column on the left set of reels with wild symbols and they transfer to the right reels becoming an expanded stacked wild 12 high! What’s more you can nudge the wilds on the left reel also.
The second big draw of these games is the free spins feature – any 3 bonus symbols activate it and they can be on a combination of the reels. So 1 bonus symbol on one reel set and two on another still trigger the round! During the free spins round any wins on the colossal reel set benefit from a 5 multiplier to further your bonus wins.
Summary
If you haven’t played a colossal reel game yet then we recommend that on your next Vegas visit that you do! They may not be for everyone and they do have a little more variance than some games but we feel that is offset by both the massive playability and the larger wins on offer.
