Theme
300 Shields introduces itself with an impressively ominous burst of music that leads you right into the warlike theme. The background surrounding the playing screen depicts a wheat field, blue skies and Spartan temples off in the distance. The welcome screen is punctured in many places with arrows, and this particular weapon appears repeatedly throughout the game.
The lower valued symbols are straight from the card deck and include the 9, 10, J, Q, K, and A. These symbols are colorful, ancient-styled letters and each has been pierced by an arrow. The medium-value symbols include a cluster of arrows flying at you, and a bloody double-edged sword atop a leather scabbard. There are two highest-value symbols: a long wooden ship with sails and oars, and a Spartan warrior pulling back on his bow and arrow. When you land on two or more of him, he becomes animated and shoots his arrow out of the frame.
Background sounds are basically limited to the movie-like soundtrack which only plays when the reels are actively spinning.
Features
The Wild Warrior symbols substitutes for all other symbols except for the Scatter Shield. When the Wild is used to activate a winning payline, an animation appears where the gold-armored soldier slashes his sword out of the reel and yells out a true warrior’s scream.
The golden Scatter Shield symbol also morphs into an animation whenever you land on two or more. The shield forming the symbol opens to the right and a golden-armored and helmeted warrior pops out, slashing his sword and shouting a battle cry.
Bonus
As with many slots, getting multiple Scatter symbols on this game will trigger rounds of Free Spins, or as they’re called in 300 Shields, Free Games. A special screen pops up to notify you that you’ve won, and during these spins, a waterfall-like stream of blood rolls down each spinning reel. It’s a rather gruesome effect, but one that fits the theme of the game quite well.
Landing on three or more Scatter symbols awards you with 5 Free Games, with all Warrior wins doubled. Even more bonuses can be triggered by landing on additional Scatter Shields while playing in this mode. Two or more Shields win you another five Free Games, with all Warrior wins multiplied 5 times. Six or more Scatter Shields grants you another five Free Games, with all Warrior wins now worth a 25X multiplier. Limits
Cast bets on your choice of one to 25 paylines, with coin values ranging between 0.02 and 5.00. The minimum you can bid per spin is 0.02 while the maximum is 125.00.
Play
The reels in 300 Shields spin with lightning-fast speed. Winning paylines are clearly announced with a flourish of digital music and a blinking colored line showing not only which line won but the amount you won appears inside the payline number’s box. When you’re in Free Games mode, a sword appears to the right of the screen that keeps track of your shield count by raising the level of blood appearing on the sword’s blade.
