The industry is celebrating Safer Gambling Week 2020 which is an annual event and is a campaign that is led by the gambling industry. Its aim is to create a conversation with customers, staff and the wider public about safer gambling. The event has been designed to drive awareness on how to gamble more safely.
Safer Gambling Week
Every year the industry pulls together to make more customers and staff aware of the importance of safer gambling. This year the event will take place between the 19th and 25th November as the industry looks to inform people:
- How to gamble safely
- Make them aware of the tools that are available to help people gamble safely throughout the year
- Provide sources of more advice and support
Coming together to support Safer Gambling Week are professionals from the whole of the UK and Irish gambling industry. This includes amusement arcades, bingo clubs, bookmakers, land based casinos and online casinos.
What Happens This Week?
This week is all about focusing on venues and websites to provide information to customers on the importance of safer gambling. This is by using a wide range of different tools and options to help manage gameplay.
Venues and online websites will focus on driving awareness about the importance of safer gambling.
Promotional material has been provided with key information that is available to all supporting organisations which cover some or all of the following:
- Highlighting five key behaviours of safer gambling
- Asking questions about gambling behaviours
- Providing details of where and how to obtain further information and help if needed
- Promoting Safer Gambling Week through social media channels like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
In venues which include land based casinos there will be posters, leaflets and banners to encourage conversations about safer gambling. Some venues will be hosting special events while online gambling sites will also be displaying banner ads and pop ups.
In addition to this key support organisations like the National Gambling Helpline, GamCare and YGam will also be promoting the week and preparing for increased numbers of enquiries due to the national campaign.
The main aim is for customers to understand the dangers of problem gambling, to learn how to gamble safely online and when to recognize if there’s a problem. It is also to make sure casino operators know how to recognize the danger signs too.
It’s About Working Together
Speaking about the event Jack Symons who is the Director & Founder at Gamban said “While Safer Gambling Week seeks to educate individuals about gambling harms, it also places a focus on operators, their products and practices, which in turn provides a platform for them to showcase ideas and innovations designed to make gambling safer.”
He later added Gamban is “the most effective gambling blocking software available, and we are working with operators, treatment providers and regulators to make it as accessible as possible to those experiencing harm.”
