Craps Bet Types and Craps Payout Table

Craps bet types can be divided into single roll bets, also known as proposition or prop bets, and multi-roll bets. Prop bets are only valid for one roll from the shooter and then expire. Multi-roll bets take several rolls from the shooter before they are resolved. Prop bets are riskier, but the potential payouts are generally higher.

There are numerous bets that can be made in craps. Some are simple, and others a little more complex.  Here are the most common craps bets:

Pass Line Bet & Don’t Pass Bet

Craps Pass Line Bets

The pass bet is the simplest of all bets in the craps dice game, and it is the one that most players will bet on. All players at the table can bet on the pass, not just the player who is shooting craps dice.
Place these bets in the area marked “Pass Line” before the first roll of the game, called the come-out roll. If the shooter rolls a 7 or 11, it is a “natural” and you win. In case the shooter rolls 2, 3, or 12 it is “craps,” and you lose. If the shooter rolls 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10, they will keep on rolling, and this number will become your “point”. If your point number is rolled again before a 7 is rolled then you win. If a 7 is rolled before your point then you lose.

  • Single or Multi-roll: Multi-roll
  • House edge: 1.41%
  • Payout odds: 1:1 (even money)

An interesting fact for The Don’t Pass Bet is that players who prefer to use the Don’t Pass bet are normally known as “wrong” players as what they do looks like betting against the shooter, who is considered a “right” player. The Don`t pass bets are placed in “Don’t Pass” bar.
The Don’t Pass bet is the opposite one of the Pass bet, which basically means that if the shooter rolls any of the “craps” number (2 or 3) – you win and if 7 or 11 come out after the dice is rolled – you lose. A roll of 12 is called a “push” which means no one wins or loses.

  • Single or Multi-roll: Multi-roll
  • House edge: 1.36%
  • Payout odds: 1:1 (even money)

Come Bet & Don’t Come Craps Bet Types

Come Craps Bets

Come and Don’t Come bets are like the Pass and Don’t Pass bets except that they are placed after the point is established after the come-out roll.
Come Bets are placed on the Come line in the center of the betting area. Come bets are like the “Pass Line”, except that “Come” bets are made any time after the come-out roll. If a 7 or 11 is rolled, you win. If craps 2, 3 or 12 comes up, you lose. Any other number becomes the “come-point” and you win if your “come-point” is made before the shooter rolls a 7.

  • Single or Multi-roll: Multi-roll
  • House edge: 1.41%
  • Payout odds: 1:1 (even money)

Dont Come Craps Bet

Like the Don’t Pass Bet, the Don’t Come bet is just the reverse. Don’t Come bets are placed in the Don’t Come area in the top corner of the betting area. These bets are also placed after the come-out roll. Bets lose on 7 or 11 and win on a 2 or 3. 12 is considered a push and there is no win or loss.

  • Single or Multi-roll: Multi-roll
  • House edge: 1.36%
  • Payout odds: 1:1 (even money)

Free Odds/Laying Odds & Place Bets

Laying the Odds is to bet against the point after a Don’t Pass bet. This is another bet with no house edge.
You can lay one or more of the following numbers: 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10. This time you wager on the point number and that the shooter will roll a seven before the point. You are paid out the true odds with no house edge. Although, because the seven gets thrown more often than any other number, your payouts are “less than even”. Also, the house edge for 4 and 10 is 2.44%, the edge for 5 and 9 is 3.23% and the house edge for 6 and 8 is 4.00%.

  • Single or Multi-roll: Multi-roll
  • House edge: 0%
  • Payout odds: 1:2 on 4 or 10; 2:3 on 5 or 9; 5:6 on 6 or 8

Place bets can be made at any time during a game of craps but are often played when a point number has already been determined. Place Bets are bets made on prospective point numbers, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10. These bets can be made at any time, including on the come out roll. If the number(s) you bet on land before a 7, you win. These bets can be increased, decreased, or removed at any stage. There are three different payouts and house edges for each dice number wagered on.

  • Single or Multi-roll: Multi-roll
  • House edge: 1.52% on 6 or 8; 4% on 5 or 9; 6.67% on 4 or 10
  • Payout odds: 9:5 for 4 or 10; 7:5 for 7 or 9; 7:6 for 6 or 8
